As the 2022 season for the MLF BFL Savannah River division comes to an end, to say I'm somewhat disappointed is an understatement. Going into this season I had high hopes of making the regional especially with the event being on one of my favorite lakes in the country, Smith Lake. I don't want to make excuses but it's been a tough season for me and I'm not sure whether it's me not executing and making the right decisions or just getting the short end of the stick. Fishing as a coangler is a different type of fishing to me. I have always done better fishing on my own. I explain it this way to everyone: fishing from the back of the boat is like fishing behind a vacuum cleaner when your boater is a phenomenal angler. I think in my case, that's just what has happened. I have had some great anglers each tournament and even though I'm ashamed of my one or two fish I've brought in each tournament, I have learn a whole lot. My whole goal of fishing as a coangler this season was to fish a full season and learn the ropes but also fish with different people and learn new tactics. I can't be mad because I have learned tons of information from each of my boaters I've had this season. I wish I could have done better but that's fishing and failing then learning is the best way to get better.
With all that being said, I'm 75th in points, I haven't cashed a check, and I haven't brought in a limit all season. I am just gonna go fishing and see what happens. I'm not happy with the situation I'm in but I have nothing to lose so I'm just gonna go for it.
I'm still undecided on what next year holds. I will definitely be fishing the BFLs again but I want to move to the front of the boat despite my terrible season as a coangler. Maybe it's just my level of confidence but I think I can do much better as a boater. I truly believe I'm just terrible as a coangler. I'm still on the fence about it but I will have a solid plan by November/December as I work out the financials and such.
Here's to hoping to make one good impression on the 2022 season. Until next time!
